The Boerboel has short hair that does not shed in large quantities. They benefit from a weekly brushing to remove dead hair and keep their coats tidy and clean. They don't require frequent bathing. Baths are usually only necessary when the dog gets dirty or smelly. Their short coats make them ideal house dogs. They also drool a lot less than other Mastiff breeds. The Boerboel's temperament is one their greatest qualities. They are rarely the dog that will cause a conflict, but they will not back down if they are challenged. They are affectionate, playful, loyal, loving and confident with their families. Boerboels have strong watch and guard dog instincts and are fearless and extremely protective of their people.
